**Improving Access to Home Ownership: Key Initiatives by the Hong Kong Housing Authority in 2024**

In the latter part of 2024, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) has been actively rolling out strategic measures to improve access to owning homes and enhance public housing distribution. Here are the significant developments from August 2024 onward:

1. **Approval of Flats for Ownership Scheme (August 27, 2024):** The Subsidised Housing Committee of the Hong Kong Housing Authority approved the average selling prices and sales arrangements for the 2024 Sale of Flats under the Ownership Scheme. The program is set to start accepting applications in the fourth quarter of 2024. Notably, around 40% of the new flats will be reserved for specific applicants under the Priority Newborns Scheme and the Priority Scheme for Families with Elderly Members. This initiative aims to support families and individuals in need of affordable housing options.

2. **Public Rental Housing Allocation for 2024-25:** The HA has projected an estimated total of about 30,200 public rental housing (PRH) units for allocation during the 2024-25 period. This allocation plan reflects the HA”s commitment to addressing the housing needs of the community by providing adequate public rental housing options.

These initiatives highlight the Hong Kong Housing Authority”s ongoing efforts to facilitate home ownership and ensure the effective management and provision of public housing in Hong Kong. The strategic focus on targeted schemes and allocations aims to address the diverse needs of the population, particularly those of families and vulnerable groups.
